title:
Two posts in a day...wow. I must really be free, or bored. Oh...I think I'll just talk about today's debate.
*Envision a dramatic pause and a dejected sigh*
Alright...so...today was the day of truth. The day to see whether HC Debate will win its first ever trophy as its first year as a first EP3. This year though, I have to admit, was a fruitful year, even for me, though I was just watching all of the debates. I mean, take a look: 1) We were 2nd for TJC U16 Invitationals (Inaugural year.Lost to PLMGS) 2) We entered the quarter finals for JGs (Julia Gabriels. I think this is the first time we made it to this point. Correct me if I'm wrong. Lost to MGS due to power placing.) 3) We were fourth in the RJC U14 Invitationals (RI came in first for the...first year. Followed by SCGS, NYGH and finally HCI. Lost to the RI Team=>Real team, though we defeated Swing Team 1.) 4) HCJIs were carried out successfully (Inaugural year I think. Once again, correct me if I'm wrong. It was fun...at least next year no more sai kang to do anymore with a new batch of servants...*smiles evilly*) That aside, the debate today was based on the moion: THBT examinations should not be the basis of assessment in our education system. We were Prop, and in my opinion, a slightly harder side to debate the motion on. Like, you have to consider the following: 1) Student-Teacher Ratio 2) How feasible other alternatives are 3) Whether these alternatives are just another mode of examinations 4) What the word examinations connote (i.e. oral exams/NAPFA/plain rigid pen-and-paper exams) 5) How the aternatives are going to be carried out (i.e. poject work can have access to all sorts of information whilst doing it but exams only your CK) 6) How they should be graded (The alternatives) But as the Opp, you only have to prove that examinations is THE only basis of education in spite of late developers and the likes. And of course, does that give you a hint of who won? Well...I'm sorry to disappoint you HCians, MGS won the debate again (last year they won it too). HOWEVER! We did hve some sound accomplishments (or so I think) throughout this competiton. Well... 1) Kah How got the 9th best speaker 2) Li Ki got the 4th/5th best speaker (I think) 3) Benjy got 3rd/4th best speaker Max, even though he got best speaker dring the semis, he didn't qualify as he only debated during semis and finals. Well...that's all I guess...for today...
Regards, Woon Wei
